Dear Miri,
This is the first birthday I’ve shared with you. I cannot begin to explain how much brightness and music your life has brought me. Though we have only been together since that frosty morning in November, my world has been turned upside down because of you, and I don’t regret it one bit. The planet of my heart now spins on a new axis, thanks to you.

I will never tire of telling you how much you mean to me. You are a candle, illuminating places I never could have imagined before. And it is not just my life. You have brought so many good things to so many good people; your smallest deeds resonate with selflessness and kindness. Maybe I am biased, but I think it’s quite a nice trait to have. I am so grateful for you.
Now, let’s move onto some of the things I love about you. The traits that may go unnoticed sometimes, but I want you to know how much every facet of you means to me....

Your belief in change
Now, I know you are not perfect. You’re human, and you make mistakes. But I am not misled in my appreciation. You have a strong faith in humankind, but not in a typical sense. Rather, you believe in growth and change, and you believe in second chances, and that is more than just hollow words. Your vein of empathy is so beautifully Miri-like.

Your balance
One of the things I admired most about you has always been your strong sense of morals, justice and balance. I am not the most moralistic person, and I work better with shades of grey. But when I’m with you, something changes. I am inspired by your conviction in what is right, and trying to be the person you deserve has made me a better person, that much I’m sure of.

Your perceptiveness
Historically, I have had trouble recognizing others as ‘3D’, and capable of true understanding. But this has never been a problem with you; you know, and your abilities of psychoanalysis regularly awe me. I respect greatly your mind and intelligence, and I don’t think you could bore me if you tried.

You listen
Now, this an important one. There are so few who understand me, largely because they don’t understand the inportance of it. I have felt alone for so long because the people who truly understand me and know how to listen, I can count on one hand.
But then you came along, and you cared enough to tune into my strange little frequency. And when I tell you things, you take them into account, and you pick up on all the little unspoken things. You care like so few others do.

Your smile
How could a list of your loveliest attributes ever be completed without the mention of your beautiful smile? The way your face cracks open and spills over like sunlight over northern hills at first light, the way your eyes dance; it’s infectious.
I can never get enough of that beautiful face of yours....what I would give to see it every day (hint: the world)
